On the 22nd of November, the Middle School auditorium resonated with anticipation and excitement as students gathered to witness the much-awaited Inter-House Elocution Competition. Esteemed judges for the event included Mrs. Irene, Mrs. Anthonith, and Mrs. Elizabeth, distinguished English educators from some of Bangalore’s most renowned schools.
The sixth-grade participants delivered their poems with remarkable expressiveness, masterfully capturing the essence of each line. The recitation of “Sick” by Shel Silverstein had the audience roaring with laughter, while the emotive delivery of “O Captain! My Captain!” left everyone in awe. The diversity in the selection of poems this year was commendable, showcasing both classics and contemporary pieces. A standout moment was the recitation of “Pollution’s Dark Stain”, an original composition that demonstrated the incredible writing prowess of the participants.
The seventh graders impressed the audience with their eloquent delivery of iconic speeches. Memorable performances included “The Gettysburg Address”, “Hamlet’s Soliloquy”, and “The Final Speech”. Each participant embodied the emotions and depth of their chosen pieces, leaving the audience captivated.
As the results were tabulated, the Middle School Band delighted the audience with spirited renditions of popular songs, adding to the lively atmosphere.
The competition was fiercely contested, with several ties making the judging particularly challenging. Ultimately, Parinay of Pope House emerged as the winner for Grade 6, while Supratim Niyogi of Pettigrew House secured the top spot for Grade 7. Pope House claimed victory in both grades, followed by Thomas House, Pettigrew House, Pakenham Walsh House, and Elphick House.
The event’s success was made possible by the unwavering support of our Principal, Coordinators, teachers, and student leaders, who provided exceptional guidance in helping participants perfect their articulation, diction, and intonation.
Straight On!
