Bishop Cotton Boys’ School conducted its premier Science and IT Fest, Synchronize 2026, on 21 and 22 August 2026. The fest witnessed the participation of over 900 students from schools across the city in 19 diverse events that celebrated talent and creativity across the fields of science and technology.
From murder mysteries and treasure hunts to robotics and chemistry-based challenges, Synchronize 2026 brought together imagination, intellect and innovation in an electrifying celebration of science and technology. This year’s theme, “The Machinery of Progress,” resonated throughout the fest, bringing the spirit of invention, experimentation and problem-solving to life.
The opening ceremony commenced with a prayer led by Rev. Christy Gnanadasan, followed by the School Song and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolising the illumination of knowledge and the spirit of innovation. The Chief Guest, Ms. Julie Averill, a prominent American technology executive, board director, author and lecturer, addressed the gathering and spoke on the importance of the new generation, overcoming obstacles and striving towards a better tomorrow.
The ceremony featured a welcome address by Srijan Sivaram, Science Secretary, an energetic dance performance by the event heads and organising committee, and an inspiring address by Ayush Prem, IT Captain, who highlighted the significance of innovation and the gradual nature of progress. The spectacular laser show added to the excitement before the ceremony concluded with the National Anthem.
The 19 events provided participants with opportunities to compete, collaborate and showcase their skills in science, technology and innovation. Signature events such as Odyssey, Quad Damage and Bloodwork received an overwhelming response, with each attracting more than 40 teams and over 100 participants.
The closing ceremony marked a fitting conclusion to two days of innovation, competition and enthusiasm. The Overall Championship Trophy was awarded to Christ Junior College for their outstanding performance across the various events. The Winners’ Trophy was presented by the Principal, Dr. Alistair R. A. Freese, to the victorious team from Christ Junior College, recognising their exceptional achievement.
The success of Synchronize 2026 was made possible by the commitment, dedication and tireless efforts of the staff, whose meticulous planning, guidance and wholehearted involvement ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the fest. Their contribution is deeply appreciated and acknowledged with gratitude.
